Newmont Mining goes for the gold. Once the clear #1 gold producing company in the world, Newmont now ranks #2 behind Barrick. Newmont produces about 5.7 million ounces of gold annually and has proved and probable reserves of 73.7 million ounces of gold and 5.7 million pounds of copper. It has significant assets in the US, mining in Nevada since 1965. It also has assets in Australia, Canada, Ghana, Indonesia, Mexico, Peru, and New Zealand. Newmont mines copper mostly through its Batu Hijau project in Indonesia and Boddington project in Australia. The company produced about 619 million pounds of copper in 2015. Operations in North America and South America account for more than half of Newmont's gold production.
